Is the footwell module in the BMW or Mini FRM3 that youโ€™re working on faulty?

BMW FRM - The Automotive Expert Ltd

Donโ€™t replace it โ€“ we can fix it!

The footwell module functions as an electrical hub and is responsible for controlling a lot of what goes on in the car - power windows not operating, hazard lights no working, or the air-conditioning/heating fan doesnโ€™t work (see our more comprehensive list of faults below).

 ๐Ÿ‘‰ Indicators not working

๐Ÿ‘‰ Hazard lights not working

๐Ÿ‘‰ Headlights and/or taillights staying on

๐Ÿ‘‰ Interior lights not functioning

๐Ÿ‘‰ The maintenance/service light on the dash is permanently on

๐Ÿ‘‰ Exterior mirrors arenโ€™t functioning

๐Ÿ‘‰ Power windows not working

๐Ÿ‘‰ High beam isnโ€™t operating

๐Ÿ‘‰ No communications with FRM unit

๐Ÿ‘‰ Air-conditioning/heating fan isnโ€™t working

When the footwell module develops a fault, these things will not work.  You may not be able to turn the headlights and/or the taillights off and the power windows my function, then stop, or might start to close but not go all the way up.  Failure of this module is widespread through the BMW and the Mini ranges.

The service light on the dash will light up when there is a fault in the footwell module.  The vehicle needs to be taken to a garage that can perform vehicle diagnostics which will indicate that the module is no longer functioning as a hub.

An expensive way to fix this is to order a replacement unit from the manufacturer, which will then need to be coded (which will add extra expense).

A cheaper, more effective, and efficient way to fix this is to repair it.

We offer a repair service of your existing BMW / Mini footwell module.  Once weโ€™ve repaired it, itโ€™s just a matter of โ€˜plug and playโ€™, no further programming or coding is required.

Communications to the FRM unit will not be possible with any vehicle diagnostic machine, but fault codes will be stored in other ECUs electronic control units.

The Most Common fault codes found after a vehicle diagnostic scanning are:

497F โ€“ Message Error (status, reverse gear, 0x3B0) Diesel Electronics Receiver Footwell Module Transmitter

A3B4 โ€“ Message (lighting condition) Incorrectly, Transmitter FRM Permanent

A3C1 โ€“ Message (FRM foot space module) Incorrectly receiver COMBI, Transmitter FRM - Permanent.
