By the end of this course you will be able to:

• Identify memory types (EEPROM, Flash, MCU) and select safe read/write methods (OBD / bench / boot).

• Use programmers and emulators to clone and virginise ECUs, repair immobiliser faults, and perform key-related coding tasks.

• Extract, edit, and verify BIN files; interpret common file structures; avoid checksum pitfalls.

• Execute clean soldering/desoldering and micro-soldering for in-circuit and chip-off work.

• Apply best practices for power/ground, pinout, backups, and ESD safety to protect modules and data.

• Build a repeatable workflow that reduces comebacks and increases workshop revenue.

Course structure (2 days)

Day 1 – Foundation & Safe Techniques

• EEPROM/Flash theory, memory families, data integrity & backups

• Connection methods: OBD vs bench vs boot (pros/cons, when to use each)

• Hardware setup: programmers, adapters, emulators, bench supplies

• Live demos: reading/writing, desoldering practice, checksum considerations

Day 2 – Applied ECU & Immobiliser Programming

• Cloning/virginising ECUs; repairing immobiliser data

• Case studies: instrument clusters, body control modules, airbags

• BIN file basics: locating immobiliser blocks, verifying edits

• Troubleshooting labs: common error states, safe recovery

• Q&A clinic: your jobs, your tools, your next steps

Tools you’ll use on the day: Topdon, MRP Pad, iFlash and other professional programmers/emulators. (All equipment provided.)
